At akt we celebrate the wide spectrum of LGBTQ+ identities, our digital team offers an accessible service to those who can’t access face-to-face support.

The UK’s LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity marks first year of dedicated work in the east midlands. akt is here to help LGBTQ+ young people aged 16 to 25, rural or city based, with their housing needs. LGBTQ+ young people have a right to live authentically, in safety and without abuse.

akt is here to give LGBTQ+ young people, as well as professionals and allies, information, advice and guidance on homelessness and housing options. We also offer a remote casework service for LGBTQ+ young people aged 16 to 25 and can signpost and refer people to more specialist services.

Do you work in a service that supports LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25 who may be at risk of/experiencing homelesness or living in a hostile environment?

We want to connect with more services in the East Midlands to create partnerships and share the work we’ve been carrying out over the last year.

We would also like to encourage any young people who may be interested in accessing our service to attend if they want to find out more information about how we can help them.

Check out our eventbrite to find out more information about our upcoming event on the 22nd of November.

I’m so excited to be working with young people in the East Midlands. We will also be working towards building relationships with local homelessness services and connecting with regional LGBTQ+ groups to deliver the best service we can. If you are experiencing homelessness or threatened with it, or are living in a hostile environment contact us at [email protected]. You can also contact us from 10-5 Monday to Friday on our live chat service to make a referral or get some advice about homelessness.

Our East Midlands Digital Caseworker

We know that there is a lack of LGBTQ+ services across the East Midlands, and those services that do exist have limited resources to help young people who may be facing housing issues and homelessness. We also know that the East Midlands has some of the most deprived areas in the country, including Nottingham, and we believe that this deprivation will only be exacerbated by the Cost of Living crisis.

Currently 9.4% of the young people that the Digital team supports are in the East Midlands.

As a result, the East Midlands is our most in-demand region after the South East, North West and East Anglia.
